Thanks Michelle for capturing so much in so little space about your father. He was a wonderful teacher and I am sure a fine father. I graduated Miami in 1973 and corresponded with David and your mother every year since. I am sending Ann a letter this week that attempts to describe what a wonderful influence he was to me. We never had the pleasure of meeting your father, but we got to know him a bit from your moving and sensitive eulogy. He had a wonderful full life and was lucky to have such intelligent and caring children. And grandchildren. Please accept our sympathies.

Dear Eric and Family,

My thoughts have been with all of you since your father’s passing. It seems as if he left you as he lived most of his life - on his own terms. He would be so proud of the beautifully written obituary. It speaks to a family that loved and truly understood a brillant and complicated man. Thank you for sharing his wonderful life with us all.

I had the privilege of being one of your father’s students and his teaching assistant for at least one term and possibly a whole year. He had a profound impact on my professional life and career. However, not only was your father a superb mentor but a moral exemplar. I hope that I can in some measure emulate him as I move along in my career as a political scientist.
